Spark Exploration is focused on its 100% equity position in the West of Shetland (UKCS) – a world class petroleum region.
This established hydrocarbon region has produced substantial volumes over decades but recent discoveries are reinvigorating activity in the West of Shetland – and a major new play is opening up in the fractured basement of the Rona Ridge.
In fact, Westwood Global’s State of Exploration 2019 has identified the Rona Ridge fractured basement play as the second largest oil play (based on published 2C Resource estimates) to emerge globally over the last decade behind Guyana.
Our licences are located along the Rona Ridge between two world class, multi billion barrel accumulations (Hurricane Energy’s Lancaster - Halifax field and BP’s Clair field).
Using the latest high quality 3D seismic data over our area, we have identified an exciting mix of prospects within our licences across a number of plays.
We have an exceptionally large basement structure (Bader) adjoining Hurricane Energy’s acreage, which is estimated to have a mean recoverable volume of 1,350 million barrels.
We have also identified very large and exciting prospects in the Devonian-Carboniferous and Lower Cretaceous sands.
An example is the Marmaduke Prospect, which is estimated to contain 415 mmbbls mean recoverable resource in a Devonian reservoir with similar characteristics to the Clair Field
